Developing a storyline that is riveting and wildly imaginative is a hard task to accomplish. Embedding a story into a frame of strict boundaries and codes increases the difficulty, but as the next generation technology is becoming faster, stronger and better, providing an entertaining experience is becoming easier… if done correctly. Books, magazines, television and movies have their own style and structure of writing that help convey a clear voice to their audiences. In this installment, I will be going over three different books that help young writers properly inscribe their work to video game developers.

Books have been around for a couple thousand years. They provide entertainment, history imagination and knowledge. As human beings, evolution has carried us away from the basic necessities of survival to push for more complex styles of comfort. Developing these styles of comfort require theory and ingenuity. As a result, we turn to books to remind us what we have gained so far, so that we may reach for the unimaginable.

Game Writing: Narrative for Videogames - This book is a compilation of different writers who work in the gaming industry. Edited by Chris Bateman and produced by IGDA, this book is an insightful guide to any beginning and experienced videogame writer. It provides an array of contemporary examples that illustrate fine ideas and detailed models to convey hard to understand theories. Game Writing: Narrative for Videogames is an essential read for anyone wishing to emerge into the field. It sharpens writers skills, and transitions scriptwriters who want to move into the gaming industry.

The Ultimate Guide to Videogame Writing and Design - This book takes creative design to a whole new level. While Game Writing: Narrative for Videogames explores theory and thought behind the creative process, the Ultimate Guide to Videogame Writing and Design put together the frame work. It explores the script structuring, integration from writing to developer and working on original intellectual property. Finally, the book provides visionary examples on presentable work to developers and producers. This book is a must for those who wish to structure and present their work properly.

Professional Technices for Videogame Writing - Finally, this book explores the different sects of videogame writing. It shows you how to be successful as a free lancer, breaking into the scene, working in a team environment and working with a team. Additionally, the book includes samples and writing exercises. As a result, I found this book to be a well rounded culmination of the latter two.

Books are a reliable resource at a low cost. They provide indepth methods to generating much interest in a specific field of study. The three books listed are insightful guides from three different aspects that will surely get you started on your dream path. As before, I encourage anyone to let me know of any books you’ve read in the past that were helpful to you. Until then…
